Definition
The newer Solana token program. It keeps the SPL token model and adds optional extensions such as transfer fees, transfer hooks, on-mint metadata and confidential transfers. Wallet and exchange support for each extension varies.
Why it matters
Extensions add features without custom programs, but each one changes how integrators must handle your token, and not every extension is supported everywhere. Transfer hooks in particular run code on every transfer, and that code needs an audit.
What to check
- List the extensions you need and confirm support with your key integrations.
- Audit transfer hook programs like any other program.
Related terms
- SPL tokenA fungible or non-fungible token created with the Solana Program Library Token Program or its successor, Token-2022, which adds extensions such as transfer fees and confidential transfers.
- Mint authorityThe key allowed to create new tokens of a given mint.
- Freeze authorityThe key that can freeze token accounts of a given mint, preventing transfers.
