Definition
The most widely used framework for writing Solana programs in Rust. It generates account validation, serialization and an IDL from declarative code, which speeds up development and prevents common mistakes.
Why it matters
Most Solana teams and auditors work in Anchor, so it is the default when hiring. It removes boilerplate and prevents many account validation mistakes, but its constraints still have to be written correctly, and auditors review them closely.
What to check
- Ask which Anchor version the team uses and how they handle upgrades between versions.
- Ask whether they have also shipped native Rust for compute-heavy parts.
Related terms
- Native Rust programA Solana program written without the Anchor framework, handling account parsing and validation by hand.
- IDL (interface description language)A machine-readable description of a program’s instructions and accounts, generated by Anchor, that lets wallets, explorers and client libraries interact with the program.
- DiscriminatorA short prefix stored at the start of an account or instruction that identifies its type.
- ProgramSolana’s term for a smart contract: executable code deployed to an account.
